Gapatista Protest at Tucson Mall Cancelled Due to Vehicle Breakdown --the tour continues to El Paso, Austin, New Orleans, Tallahassee and Miami Beach-- The Gapatista Road Show has regretfully cancelled their protest in Tucson, Arizona, at the Tucson Mall, today, Wednesday, Nov. 12, due to a vehicle breakdown on their departure from Los Angeles. The group, which held a successful protest at the Gap in Hollywood, CA, on Tuesday--covered by NBC and other media--will continue the Road Show to El Paso, Austin, New Orleans, Tallahassee and Miami Beach, on schedule. The Gapatistas hope to re-schedule the Tucson protest for their return trip, two weeks from now, but it is too early to set a firm date. The transmission on the truck hauling the giant redwood stump suddenly failed on an L.A. freeway, as the group was departing L.A. for Tucson. All are safe--but the group had to make new travel arrangements today. The Gapatistas are on a 3,000 mile road trip to the Miami protests against the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) talks, Nov. 17-22. They are stopping along the way in southern cities to protest Gap sweatshops, forest destruction, war and global injustice. * |
